In this
passage, we see two meanings to the word 'peace'. First, we see that CHRIST
has brought about unity (oneness of mind and purpose). How did He
do this? By taking away the separation that kept us apart from each other.
He
did this when Peter was on the rooftop and had the vision of the single-hoofed animals
with the split-hooved animals. GOD
showed Peter that the Gospel was for both the Jew and the Gentile. We all are able to
now be unified before Him
under the banner of CHRIST.
Second, we see the meaning of the word 'peace' in taking the 'dividing wall of
hostility' by what? He
'destroyed the barrier.' He
did this at the moment on the cross when He
said that it was finished and the curtain between the Holy Place and the Most Holy
Place was torn. We were allowed to enter into His
presence without fear of instant death.
So many things in
this world seek to separate us from each other as Christians, as family, and as
friends. As Christians, we only need to agree on the simple fact that it is by
faith in JESUS
that we are saved, not by our works. Though works should follow our faith, it is
by no means the way we are saved. All else is important in its own right but
should never be used to bring about division between us. If only we all could
agree to disagree sometimes.
This simple rule of
agreeing to disagree can truly help us in all our relationships. Whether Husband
to Wife, Parent to Child, or boss to worker, or friend to friend. The Bible
shows us over and over that we are free to be what GOD
made us to be. We are each individuals in our own right, made in the very image
of GOD.
Join
with me today with an open heart before GOD
and rejoice that CHRIST
made a way for us to have peace between each other and with the FATHER!
