Colossians
3:12-1 "Therefore, as the elect of GOD,
holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;
bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against
another; even as CHRIST
forgave you, so you also must do."
In this particular passage there is a lot of different things that we could cover;
however, I want to just talk about one thing. I want to talk about forgiveness.
When someone forgives another person they are freely giving grace to that
person. That is the very thing that JESUS
did for us on the cross. He
forgave us. Not just for our past sins, but for
those in the present and those in the future. He
gave us freely of GOD'S
grace.
In the above
scripture, our LORD is
asking us to do the same thing. He
wants us to freely give grace to others for the things
they have done to harm us. Grace is receiving something that is not earned.
That means that sometimes we will find ourselves in the position of forgiving someone
who has never or may never ask for that forgiveness. What a tremendously freeing
thing that is. We become free because we forgive, they become free because we
forgive and we see GOD'S
grace and mercy work in our life and that of the one that
we have forgiven.
Trust me, it is not an easy act to forgive someone.
Sometimes, it may be the most difficult thing we may ever do. Even harder than
when we asked JESUS into
our life. However, it will be one of the most rewarding things you ever do. "Therefore
if the SON makes
you free, you shall be free indeed." (John 8:33)
