Micah
6:8 "He
has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD
require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk
humbly with your GOD."
The LORD
condenses the commands of Isaiah 33:15 to three things.
First, He
asks us to be honest in everything we do. By
this He means
that we do our best to do the right thing, all the time.
This in no way means that we have
to be perfect, for we cannot. However,
if we make a genuine attempt, even if we are unable to do the right thing, our God
looks at our heart
and does not see it as a failure.
Remember that most times we will
succeed at doing the right thing!
Secondly,
the LORD asks
us to show kindness, tenderness, faithfulness, and genuine care/concern about others.
An excellent example of this type
of mercy is shown by a really good nurse. You
probably know her. She
was the one who was kind to you when you felt awful and were a little grumpy.
Or maybe she was the one who tended
to your wound gently and carefully so that you would have less pain. She
may have been the one who smiled while she worked and took a genuine interest in you
as a person. This kind
of nurse walks in genuine compassion and kindness. She is a living example of mercy.
GOD wants
us to be merciful with those around us. When
we meet people who are hurting on the inside, lend them a listening ear and pray,
pray, pray. Say less,
and do more to help their situation by getting on your knees for them. Christian
catch phrases donšt help, but our prayers do.
And
lastly, the LORD
asks that we commit ourselves to walk in a way that is pleasing
to Him. In
other words, consider others before ourselves and live for Him
and not ourselves. These are hard things to do, it's
a fact that we all at times, have difficulty loving others, don't despair!
Great is the reward for those who love GOD!
We know that we love GOD,
because we love our brothers and sisters! Today,
go before GOD with an
open heart and ask Him to
show you how to start walking in this way! |
