Acts
17:11 "These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they
received the Word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out
whether these things were so."
In this passage, Paul is talking about when he
was ministering in Berea. The Bereans were considered to
be scholarly and devoted completely to the truth of GOD'S
Word. When Paul would deliver a
message or teach on a passage, these people would not take it at his Word. Instead
they would go home and search carefully to be certain what they heard aligned with GOD'S
Word. They did not have closed minds or hearts
because they 'received the Word with all readiness'. So this Scripture suggests
that they had an
open mind and
heart, but that they were careful.
We
also should always remain open
in both our minds and hearts.
We should be like the Bereans and search the Scriptures daily to carefully
ensure that what we receive is biblically correct. Our personal beliefs must
measure up to the GOD'S Word.
We should not be gullible and receive everything we are told from others as the
pure truth. GOD'S Word
is our measuring stick. If what we are told goes against the truth of GOD'S
Word than we should reject it. That way we only fill
ourselves up with the truth. The more truth one has in their minds and hearts,
the easier it is to detect a lie when it comes before you! Today, and every day,
keep an open mind and an open heart before
GOD. Today, and
every day may we be like the Bereans!
