Peter 1:5-8
"For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith
goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to
self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness,
brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these
qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and
unproductive in your knowledge of our LORD
JESUS CHRIST."
Once we begin to add goodness to our
lives, it is important to add knowledge. What kind of knowledge is Peter talking
about? It is the knowledge of
GOD'S
Word! When I was a new Christian I
read a scripture in Psalm 119, verse 18 "Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things
in YOUR
law." I thought long and hard about that scripture and realized that the LORD
wanted me to open my spiritual eyes and that the law was His
Word which is found in the Bible. As a baby Christian, I was starved to
understand the Bible and to apply it to my life.
In
this passage, the LORD
is asking us to open up our hearts,
let ourselves step from the baby life and into a life of growth. Part of growing
in the LORD
is reading the Word of GOD
and letting it change us through understanding. True knowledge is not found in
the head only. It is knowledge read, practiced and understood. Therefore,
knowledge of GOD'S
Word fills up our heart
with hope, health, more faith, and joy! Join with me today in asking GOD
to add to our goodness, knowledge by opening up our spiritual eyes as we read GOD'S
Word. While we are before GOD
asking for this; also ask Him
to fill your heart
with His
Good things.
