2 Peter 1:5-8
"For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.  For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our LORD JESUS CHRIST."

    In a previous teaching I discussed the fact that when we are saved our house is cleansed.  Matthew 12:43-45 tells us that when an evil spirit is cast from a person and that person does not fill their house with the divine nature of GOD, the spirit comes back to the empty house and brings seven other spirits more wicked than it ever was and takes back over that house.

    When we open our heart to GOD and let Him cleanse us of our sins, it is critical that we let Him fill our hearts with HIS divine nature at that time.  We start first by simple faith in Him, then we need to take the step of adding goodness to our life.  It's important to accept that doing good has to be understood according to the LORD'S definition.

    Even a sinner can do good things according to their own standards.  A sinner may help the homeless, feed the hungry, but without the divine nature living in them they are doing their own work, not the LORD'S.  These deeds will not give them eternal favor with GOD. 

    The type of good I'm talking about is living a life of good according to GOD'S desire for us.  This means we are to stop living for ourselves and live for the good of others.  The best we can do is to live a life with an open heart before our LORD as HIS Spirit guides our lives.
